The Department of English, with its prestigious position in the college, was established in the year 1995. From its humble beginning of offering only General English to the UG students, the Department has become a full-fledged one offering PG and Research Programmes. The UG course, begun in 2009, has been highly successful, always enjoying 100% results and bagging several university ranks. The potentials of the Department were fondly recognized and were rapidly upgraded, first as a PG Department and recently as a research Department which has produced excellent scholars.

An innovative, collaborative and creative team of Assistant professors who aspire to achieve high standards among students and to arouse their aesthetic senses and enhance their linguistic and professional competency.

2019- 2020

 The Department of English in association with English Literary Association and English Language Club organised an Inter collegiate Meet – Promena ’19 on 1.10.2019. Ms. R.Poornima of II M.A English literature delivered the welcome address. Dr.R.Shunmughan , Principal, delivered the inaugural address. Thiru.V.R.Murugan , Treasurer, Tmt.Vasanthi Sathyan, Tmt.Parimala Raaja , Joint Secretaries felicitated the function.100 students from various colleges participated in the events like Mock Press, Monologue, Dance, Selfie, Musically and Dual role. Mr.R.Nishanth of I B.A English Literature delivered the Vote of thanks.

PG and Research Department of English organized an orientation programme on NET/SET on 25th September 2019. Ms.J.Mohana Priya, III B.A.English Literature welcomed the gatherings. Dr.R.Shunmughan, Principal, inaugurated the function . Thiru V.R.Murugan, Treasurer, Tmt.Vasanthi Sathyan, Tmt. Parimala Raaja, Joint Secretaries felicitated the function. Dr.S.Kalaivani, M.A., M.Phil., SLET., Ph.D., acted as the chief guest. Ms S.Sneha , II B.A.English Literature delivered the vote of thanks. More than 100 students along with faculty members  got a clear idea about the NET/SET Examinations.

The department celebrated PEDAGOGUES’ DAY- 2019 on 06-09-2019. On account of the celebration, many on-stage events like oratory, imitation, and stage play and off-stage events like essay writing, poem writing, and mini show were conducted. Prizes were distributed to the winners. 

A special Book Fair was organized on 9th & 10th July, 2019. Thiru.N.K.K.Periasamy, Secretary& Correspondent, Bharathidasan Institutions inaugurated the function. More than seven leading Publishers gathered and exhibited their books. In addition to our college students, around 200 school students participated in it. Events were conducted for them and books were distributed as prizes in order to motivate them. The book fair was extended to the third day also and more than 200 books were sold.A Guest Lecture entitled “An Exploration of Indian Women Novelists” was organised on 02.07.2019.


Dr. P. Malathy, Assistant Professor of English, Chikkaiah Naicker College, Erode was the Chief Guest. She clearly explained about the part played by Indian women novelists.

The Department of English organized an awareness programme on Afforestation and Its Significance on 16th September 2019. Ms.E.Jeevitha, II B.A.English Literature welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.Shunmughan, Principal,delivered inaugural address. Thiru V.R.Murugan, Treasurer, Tmt.Vasanthi Sathyan, Tmt.Parimala Raaja, Joint Secretaries felicitated the function. Ms.B.Agalya,Assistant Professor of English introduced the Chief Guest. Dr.V.Naganathan, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest and Field Director, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, Erode acted as the Chief Guest. Mr.K.K.Vimal Karuppannan, President, Erodu Siragukal Trust, was the guest of honour. Ms.A.Evanjalin, I B.A.English Literature delivered the vote of thanks. More than 300 students got a clear idea about the value of Tree Plantation.

2018 - 2019

On behalf of PG & Research Department of English, Farewell party was conducted at College premises to the final year students on 07-02-2019.  The programme began with juniors various performances. Students shared their nostalgic experience with all.  

A State Level Workshop was conducted by PG & Research Department of English on 28.01.2019, entitled:  “Enriching the Reciprocity between Nature of Learning Language and English Communication Skills”. Dr. R.Vijay, Assistant professor, Department of English, Mahendra Institute of Technology, Mallasamudram, was the Chief Guest and his speech inspired all the students to attain fluency in English Language.

On behalf of PG & Research Department of English, English Literary Association associated with English Language Club organized INTER-COLLEGIATE GALA - SANDALPHON-2K18 on 05.10.2018. Various events like Literary Parade, Model Display, Extempore and Spell Bee were conducted. Students from various colleges participated in the events and prizes were distributed to the winners. 

An international conference was conducted by PG & Research Department of English on 10.08.2018 entitled:  New Panorama on Glocal Language Teaching.  Prof. M.H.Narmadha, Assistant Coordinator, English Language Instructor, Jazan University, Gizan, Soudi Arabia, was the Chief Guest and her speech motivated not only the students but also the staff members.

 

2017 - 2018

PG & Research Department of English organized A State Level Conference on Dynamic approaches to Language and Literature: A critical study, held on Feb 2, 2018. Lt. Dr.V. Neelakandan, Associate Professor of English, Sri Ramakrishna college of arts and Science, Coimbatore, who acted as the Resource person of the programme. Department News Letter was released on the same day.

An Industrial Visit was arranged for all the students on 28.09.17. All the students and faculty members attended the IV. They were all taken to Isha Yoga Center at the foothills of Vellingiri hills, Coimbatore. It was a different kind of an experience because the students and staff were given an insight about Yoga and meditation.

PG & Research Department of English arranged a Guest Lecture entitled “Role of Anthropomorphism in Literature” on 27.09.17. Dr.V.Vishnu Varthan, Assistant Professor of English, Bishop Heber College, Trichy, was the Chief Guest. 

An International Conference was held on 06.08.17 on New Perspective in Post-Colonialism and Post modernism in Language and Literature. Prof Mahesh Babu and Prof. Vibinchander Selvaraj were the Chief Guests whose speeches ignited the young minds.

2015 - 2016

The PG and Research department of English has organized a state level workshop on Importance of English language Teaching and creative writing in English on 31.08.2015.Dr.N.Vijaydurai,Associate Professor and Head, CN college, Erode and A.Vanitha, Assistant Professor of English, Vellalar College for Women, Erode were the resource person.
